The Tick -- On Patrol!
Edited by Feb 17, 2005 9:31 am
It finally, finally premieres tonight on Fox. The word is out that the critics love it, and that the Fox execs don't have a clue what to do with it. Starring Patrick Warburton (The Tick), David Burke (Arthur), Nestor Carbonel (Bat Manuel) and Liz Vassey (Captain Liberty). Catch it quick before the network kills it!
Forever Spoon. Semper Spoondelis.
Nestor was just great on that show, and I wanted his car. I wonder if they'd go for a 'Batmanuel' sitcom?
Naw, why bring on more heartache. Go on FOX, just give us more of "Whores To Alaska, You Go North The Rush Is On" and When Dust Mites Attack!

Hey - Bachelorettes in Alaska is just as funny as the Tick was, only for entirely different reasons (like the jokes in the Tick were intentional).
Wow, this thread's alive?
Bravo Nestor!!
Anyway, I have just gotten a cable connection and have been..uhm...finding out where to buy legally copies of the animated TICK making sure all royalties are paid! <whew>
Anyway, I've really enjoyed making the acquaintance of Batmanuel's inspiration, Die Fledermaus. His costume is really cool and he's quite a hunk (witness the shower scene in "Evil Sits Down for a Moment", his star episode). I love his sleazy lounge lizard way of speaking, his fear of commitment, and his gliding from building to building; in many ways he had more to do than Batmanuel. The fact that to my knowledge neither of them actually had a real superpower or threw a punch in a fight just makes them funnier.
Of course, Nestor's performance and the fact that you could see (most of) his face makes Batmanuel my favorite, and his interaction with Capt. Liberty was priceless. It was nice to finally see American Maid but frankly I found her a bit of a pill and not as interesting as Liberty; the Maid seemed self-righteous and priggish in a way the Captain wasn't. Although I did like her shoe-throwing powers.
JMHO.
Both sets of characters were great in their own ways, in a way it was a good thing that the Fox animated execs screwed up the rights so that the creators got to rethink the characters. What great shows both of those were!
I only wish Patrick had won for the greatest deadpanning in the hisotry of television.
SPOOOOOOON!
Don't say that! It makes the brain-baby kick!
I've been asked to archive this thread, as it's very, very inactive. If anyone would like to keep it here, say so; otherwise, it's off to the Attic.
FWIW, Ben Edlund has joined the staff of Joss Whedon's Firefly series. His first script for the show will be broadcast this coming Friday, called "Jaynestown."
Okay, I just want one last spoon before this gets archived.
<sniff>
SPOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!

Farewell...
not telling anyone that I still see it regularly, most evenings on the Canadian Teletoon network....
TeleTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
So long, mighty Tick! Farewell, you blue engine of JUSTICE!
Long may you continue to ladle the hot gravy of justice over the fried potatoes of evil, old chum.
Hey! There's action figures! DH just saw them on Amazon.
I have Batmanuel right here. He has a Real Superhero License.
